Mankala 1.0 PPC.sit PowerMacDL AMUG 15:Files:PowerMac:Mankala 1.0 PPC.sit 1.0 0 525K 3/24/95 Mankala 1.0 PPC - Mankala is a pretty good strategy game, and quite addictive too! When you open Mankala, you are presented with a playing field with 8 pits. The large pit on your right is your home pit. The one on the left belongs to the Mac. You control the 6 round pits along the bottom of the board, and the Mac gets the ones on the top. The object of the game is to earn as many pebbles as you can, while keeping the Macs earnings to a minimum. The basic game begins with 3 pebbles in each of the round pits. When it is your turn, you choose one of the pits you control which has at least one pebble in it. Click on the pit, and the pebbles will redistribute themselves on the board. Optimized for the Power PC.
OE's Sys7.5Update Patch.sit PowerMacDL AMUG 15:Files:PowerMac:OE's Sys7.5Update Patch.sit 7.5 0 17K 3/22/95 Apple's new System 7.5 Update 1.0 contains code to selectively load Operating System patches based on machine type. Machine type is determined at boot-up and is stored as a Gestalt value. PowerMacintosh 7100/66 machines that have been upclocked to 80 MHz report a different Gestalt value than either the standard PowerMac 7100/66 Gestalt or the 7100/80's Gestalt. Hence, the System Update 1.0 will not load on 7100/66's that have been upclocked to 80 MHz. This patch is only for use on PowerMac 7100/66, 8100/100, and 8100/110 machines that have been up-clocked. No other machines will require this patch, and it probably should not be used on any other machines.

The coolest part of this PowerMac only game is the graphics, the movement is beautiful! Features full texture mapped graphics. Will not work on a 68k mac!

It removes, autmagically, the 68k code resources of a fat application. This can free up anywhere from Zero to dozens of Megabytes per application. I don't recommend it's use upon 68k-only applications, as those applications will not work after being processed by 68k Nyet!, though you will free up some substantial hard disk space.

I originally wrote it (using Think C) over a week or so in preparation for an August 1993 outing featuring the Perseid meteor shower. Of course, that version (1.0) was much simpler than the current release. Since I have more serious aspirations to program geographic information systems, Stars to Harp By contains a terrestrial database module as well.

Since I really don't like having to waste all that disk space on MPW or Toolserver, I felt the need for it. Many Mac people dislike the command-line nature of MPW. Me, I'm perversely attracted to it, but I'd rather have the power and flexibility of a good human interface any day.

SEMERT is, as its full name implies, a real-time movie effects application. You probably see many visual effects in TV shows and movies. You might wonder how they can do some of these effects, such as rotating and moving the TV or movie screen around. You will find your answer with SEMERT, since it provides some simple effects.
PowerPC Cache Performance.sit PowerMacDL AMUG 15:Files:PowerMac:PowerPC Cache Performance.sit 0 14K 1/18/95 PowerPC Cache Performance - This report describes some PowerPC benchmarks that measure the performance effects of cache and virtual memory. Cache is a high-speed memory buffer that makes main memory appear to run faster. There are two type of cache, level-one (L1) cache that is built into the CPU and level-two (L2), an external add-in. Cache is classified as either split instruction-data (i.e., Harvard architecture) or unified where both instructions and data share the same buffer (See figure). Split cache simplifies the instruction cache circuits, they dont have to update main memory. Furthermore, the code does not have to compete for cache space with the data it is processing.

ScreenScope1.0.1 works like a screen saver and a screen poster. ScreenScope1.0.1 covers your screen with the real black color, and a hole in the center of the screen lets you watch stars and galaxies just like using telescopes. The stars and galaxies you will see are the real photos, so you can watch the outer space right at your Mac's screen. It requires 256 colors and at least a 13 inch monitor. The basic premise is to protect your arm from being sucked into oblivion by hoards of blood-thirsty insects, which you do by hitting the bugs with your hand and making a big mess. It's worth the download time just to see the graphics. This version - Fixes some of the Memory allocation bugs so you shouldn't get Not Enough Memory for Unpacked Data errors. Greatly improves the performance of the game. It should run much better on slow Macs. Requires a PowerMac, runs native.
Stereodrome PPC.sit PowerMacDL AMUG 15:Files:PowerMac:Stereodrome PPC.sit 0 247K 8/08/94 Stereodrome PPC - This is a PowerPC-only game. It was actually never completed. Still, graphics, sounds, explosions, etc. are rampant here. It's a real 3D-3D game. You'll need red/blue(cyan) glasses and a color Mac for the game to have any meaning whatsoever. Stars appear to fall away into the depths of your monitor, ships appear to come up out of the depths - you know, things like that - 3D. It's like the old arcade classic Tailgunner (although I never played it). You're like a turret gunner on a space ship. Anyway. If you like 3D things and have the above equipment, you'll have a fun time playing with the parallax and such and crticizing the 3D effect etc. Makes a lovely conversation piece. Freeware.

Even though some essential features are still missing, I wanted to make this available as soon as possible so that fractal fans with Power Macs can get a taste of the fractal exploration capabilities of the new machines. It only generates the Mandelbrot set, and the plots cannot be copied to the clipboard nor saved as PICT files. All of these features will be added in future versions. On the other hand, plots of any size, limited only by the memory allocated to the program, may be generated, and plots may be printed directly to color printers. Very fast! Requires a PowerMac!

Both of these programs are very preliminary; they seem to work okay on my computers (a Quadra and a PowerPC 7100/66), but if there are any problems with them, please drop the authors a line. Deleting the FAT of a FAT binary progam will save some space on your hard drive.

How often do you wish that items like Restart and Empty Trash had command keys? For those of you who do not know what command keys are, they are the letters after a menu item. When these letters are selected on the keyboard, in tandem with the command key, they provide the same reaction as when you select an item from the File menu for instance. PPC Chipbasic2.9b2.sit PowerMacDL AMUG 15:Files:PowerMac:PPC Chipbasic2.9b2.sit 2.92 0 82K 3/29/94 PPC Chipbasic2.9b2 - Every real personal computer should come with a BASIC interpreter. Here's my contribution for the new Power Macintosh machines. It's a line number based BASIC interpreter similar to the Applesoft BASIC that came with the Apple ][+ (that's Apple ][, NOT Mac II for you newcomers). This version runs ONLY on Power Macs. Chipmunk Basic is a simple Basic interpreter for the Macintosh. It is similar to the line number based MumbleSoft BASIC interpreters of circa 1980. Its roots are from a pascal program, basic.p, that was part of the test input suite to p2c, a pascal to c translator. Runs only on a Power Mac.
NativeChecker 1.0.sit PowerMacDL AMUG 15:Files:PowerMac:NativeChecker 1.0.sit 1.0 0 13K 3/20/94 NativeChecker 1.0 - How do you know if an application is for 68K Macs or or runs native on a PowerPC? With NativeChecker, you can easily know that! Just drag & drop the file onto NativeChecker and at once you will see the result dialog. NativeChecker can run on any Macintosh running on System 7 or later, both 68K mac and Power Macintosh, though it runs on emulation mode. Yes NativeChecker itself isn't native yet. Drag & Drop the application you want to examine into NativeChecker. Or open the file from NativeChecker's File menu. By the way 68k is another way of saying 680x0 Macs.
